Product Description

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), also known as HER1 or ErbB1, belongs to the ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases. This receptor family includes EGFR (HER1), HER2 (ErbB2), HER3 (ErbB3) and HER4 (ErbB4). These membrane-associated proteins participate in cellular communication and regulate important biological processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, survival and tissue development.

Following ligand binding, EGFR can form homodimers or heterodimers with other ErbB family members. This interaction activates intracellular tyrosine kinase activity and initiates downstream signaling pathways, including RAS–RAF–MEK–ERK and PI3K–AKT signaling. These pathways contribute to the regulation of cell growth, metabolism, survival and migration.

EGFR interacts with several ligands, including epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-α), amphiregulin and heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF). Ligand binding also promotes receptor internalization and subsequent trafficking and degradation, helping regulate signaling activity.

Alterations in EGFR expression or activity have been associated with several types of cancer. These changes can influence cellular proliferation, invasion, migration and tumor progression. EGFR is therefore an important research target in cancer biology, molecular signaling and therapeutic development.

EGFR mutations and structural alterations, including deletions and duplications in specific regions of the receptor, may affect receptor activity and signaling behavior. Studying EGFR expression and molecular characteristics helps researchers investigate its role in normal cell biology and disease-associated processes.
