Background

Gelsolin (GSN), also known as brevin, is an actin-binding protein that plays an important role in regulating the organization and dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton. It belongs to the gelsolin/villin superfamily and is involved in actin filament severing, capping and regulation of filament assembly and disassembly.

Gelsolin exists in both intracellular and extracellular forms. Intracellular gelsolin contributes to cytoskeletal remodeling, influencing cell shape, motility, adhesion and intracellular organization. These functions make it an important protein in studies of cell structure and movement.

Extracellular gelsolin participates in the actin-scavenging system, together with vitamin D-binding protein (also known as Gc protein). This system helps remove extracellular actin released following tissue injury or cell damage, limiting the potentially harmful effects of actin accumulation in the circulation and extracellular environment.

Gelsolin is also involved in the regulation of apoptosis. Experimental studies have suggested that it can influence mitochondrial pathways associated with cytochrome c release and programmed cell death. Its functions in cytoskeletal organization and cell survival make it relevant to research into inflammation, tissue injury and disease mechanisms.

Product Description

Anti-Gelsolin/GSN Antibody Picoband® (HRP Conjugate) is designed for the detection of gelsolin protein in research samples. The antibody is conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (HRP), an enzyme commonly used in antibody-based detection systems.

HRP catalyzes the conversion of suitable substrates to generate a detectable signal. This enzyme-labeling approach is widely used in immunodetection methods and can support visualization of target proteins depending on the experimental system and detection reagents.

This antibody is reported to react with Human, Monkey, Mouse and Rat samples and has been tested in the following applications:

  • Western Blot (WB): Detection of gelsolin in protein extracts.
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): Investigation of gelsolin expression in tissue sections.
  • Immunocytochemistry (ICC): Detection and localization of gelsolin in cultured cells.
  • Immunofluorescence (IF): Visualization of protein distribution in cellular samples.
  • Flow Cytometry: Analysis of antibody-associated signals in cell populations, subject to protocol compatibility.
