Synonyms: Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex

Background: The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) is a mitochondrial multienzyme complex which catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate. It is regulated by reversible phosphorylation.  Phosphorylation and inactivation of PDC is catalyzed by a kinase which is  tightly associated with the complex. Dephosphorylation and concomittant reactivation of the complex is catalyzed by loosely associated mitochondiral protein phosphatases.
